How to Read a Surf Report in 60 Seconds:
1. Wave Height
- How big the waves are (bigger isn’t always better)
- This is the first number you’ll see on most forecasts.
2. Period (seconds)
- The time between waves.
- Longer periods usually mean more powerful, better-organized surf.
- Example:
8 sec = less power
14 sec = more powerful surf
- Example:
3. Wind Direction
- Offshore: Wind blows from land to sea. Cleaner, more organized waves.
- Onshore: Wind blows from sea to land. Choppier, messier waves.
4. Tide
- Every surf break is different. Some are best at high tide. Others come alive at low tide.
