Hawaii: Historic First High School Surfing State Championship

On May 1-2, 2026 at Ho‘okipa Beach Park on Maui, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) hosted its inaugural Surfing State Championships. A total of 174 student-athletes from 55 schools competed in challenging conditions. Kahuku High School swept the Boys Team title, while Waialua High School claimed the Girls Team crown. Sophomore Skai Suitt of Waialua made history as the first-ever girls shortboard state champion.
